Am I the only one who struggles with squeezing in my quiet time? I spend most of my days in the car, shuttling kids back and forth and when I’m at home, my time is consumed by our family. You know the drill, getting the people ready, making lunches, getting everyone out the door, then homework, dinner, bathtime and bedtime routines. Most days it’s hard to find a large amount of time to myself to pray, meditate and be still.
I usually get up before the sun to ensure a little silence but as a mother, sometimes I have to find my peace in the minutes in between life to keep myself centered. So I have an arsenal of apps on my phone with my favorite devotions. When I’m waiting in the car rider line, in the doctor’s office, at baseball practice or while rocking a baby, I use these apps to fill my cup. It’s a much better use of my time and it has replaced most of my mindless social media consumption. Of all the devotion apps I have tried, these are my top 5. Download them today and take your peace back, connect with God and take a deep breath, sister.
This is a simple app I have had on my phone for years. I like it because it has an am and pm devotion each day. Each day there two bible verses and a very short devotion to go with each so even if you have no time, you can start and end your day in the word.
I love this app for so many reasons. They have a daily devotion plan you can subscribe to that is a longer devotion with a lot of scripture, or you can buy studies to read, like the 14-day study on Ester that is excellent. I also love the beautiful screensavers and pictures they have available for download. So pretty, right?!
I know a ton of people who love these devotions and use them every day! I got on board and I like to read these when I have time for a little more reading. It is a more extensive devotion that you can get a full month at a time, go look at past months and it has links to click on to read through the scripture that goes along with the devotion for that day.
This is a great app if you are struggling with how to pray. It provides a daily verse, devotion and a prayer for you. Many people overcomplicate prayer and this is a neat feature on this app to give you the words to pray each day when you can’t think of what to say.
I love this app, the aesthetics are beautiful. You can search bible verses by categories and set alarms to send the verse to your phone every day! And you can save and store all your favorite verses in one place. It’s probably my favorite app just for daily scripture or to look at when I’m struggling with something specific.
So this isn’t exactly an app, but kind of. I listen to a ton of audiobooks on the audible app and like so many of you, every year I set a goal to read the bible front to back and I fall short. So this year I decided to listen to it instead and friends, it is working! It gives you bite size pieces each day to listen to. It’s usually between 9-12 minutes but never over 15 minutes. I listen in the car each day and I am loving it! If you struggle to find time to read or fall asleep on the family heritage that consumes so much of Genesis, listening to it is so much easier and more entertaining. I am finding myself listening to the next day and looking forward to what’s to come.
I am always looking for ways to get more quiet time in my life, learn more bible verses, memorize scripture and do some kind of devotion each day. I use devotional books and the bible but adding a variety of applications on my phone helps fill in the gaps and you can’t beat the convenience of always having them with you. I hope these apps help you too! What are your favorite devotion apps?
