This 3 Simple Hacks for a Natural Summer post was developed in partnership with Tom’s of Maine. All opinions are my own.
Y’all know I am always trying to use products that are better for my family. I know you’re with me mamas. You’re reading the articles, worrying about what you’re feeding your families, what they are breathing and what is being applied to their skin, are yours. It’s overwhelming to say the least!
I was consumed with this when My Sunshine was born. So for sanity reasons, I decided I would take small steps to be more conscious of the products we use. Small steps for me means less pressure by making simple changes so we are constantly improving, without mama losing her mind! You can relax this summer and live smarter. Today I am sharing my top 3 easy changes for a more natural summer, so start small with me.
I hate bug spray, it is my nemesis! I swear, I would rather have mosquito bites than be covered with toxic smelling, sticky chemicals. That is until recently, now we have had to worry about all the diseases bugs carry. When My Sunshine was a toddler, the last thing I wanted to do was spray him down in that junk but he wanted to live outside and we’re in Texas so you can see my dilemma.
I did some research and tried fabric softener sheets. I would stick them in his back pockets and he never knew they were there. The mosquitos left him alone! All summer long I shove fabric softener sheets into our clothing to keep the mosquitos at bay and it works like a charm. You have got to try it!
I’m sure you’ve heard all about the wonders of coconut oil and all the many uses for it. That greasy goodness is like magic in so many ways. Today I am only talking about what I use it for in the summer. I discovered this by accident. We were at the beach and I missed a spot when I was sunscreening. I had hours in the sun with no coverage which resulted a really bad sunburn on my leg. I had no cream or aftersun lotion. What I did have with me was a jar of coconut oil.
I whip coconut oil in my mixer to use as a moisturizer for my face so I had a small jar with me at the beach. Being that’s all I had, I lathered up my leg really well and went to bed. The coconut oil made the burn look and feel so much better. I will definitely be using coconut oil as our after sun moisturizer for the whole family from now on.
TOM’S OF MAINE
This summer I was given the opportunity to try out a different deodorant. Tom’s of Maine deodorant is the best selling natural deodorant and has been for decades. Tom’s of Maine is introducing a new formula, Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant. It contains no aluminum, no preservatives, artificial fragrances or petrochemicals. Have you looked at the ingredients in your personal care lately? I bet your deodorant can’t say that, mine couldn’t.
It’s clinically proven to give 24 hours of lasting odor protection, the packaging is fully recyclable, they never test on animals and with every purchase they give 10% back to help people and the planet! What I really like is that they only use natural fragrances, I love the new yummy scents. Powder is my favorite, but you could also try the unscented, lavender, tea tree, apricot or lemongrass!
