My baby recently turned 3 and we had the cutest little lake mermaid party for her! I promised to share some details from the day and I will but I also wanted to share my favorite kid’s birthday party invitations. I get compliments on our birthday party invites all the time. But the thing is, I am not super creative and you can create the best, personalized party invites for your kids too! These invitations are super cute, custom, cheap and easy. And it all starts with a picture!
The first thing I do after my children decide on a theme for their birthday party is come up with a photo shoot idea to match it. Get your kids involved in the brainstorming, they love to hash out party details and are so proud of their ideas! Keep it simple. You could use their favorite costumes like dressing up as a superhero or princess to match their party. For little ones, with simple party decor, you can just use balloons, flowers or streamers in their pictures like this one of my son’s first birthday!
When I first started the photo shoots, there wasn’t a lot of easy technology for digitally writing on photos. I got creative with sidewalk chart, posters and I often wrote details on the back of the invitations.
Now that there are a million apps and websites to add text to photos, the possibilities are endless and it’s a heck of a lot easier than gluing on one letter at a time! I’m fancy now!
Last year my sweet girl had a puppy party so she used her own handsome pup to create the perfect party invitation! This is one of my favorite invitations because it’s simple, yet adorable! Once I find the perfect picture and add the party details, all I do is have the pictures printed at a one-hour photo like Walmart, Walgreens or CVS. I can pick them up the same day along with some 4×6 envelopes. (Walmart includes the envelopes for free!)

The best part about these photos is they always turn out so cute, I use them for the invitations and at the party. Our little lake mermaid is still up all over the house! We had such a fun, relaxing day celebrating my little lady. I cut out the mermaid tails and made the cupcakes at her request. The decor was seashells, streamers, and pictures. Add some snacks, family, and friends and the kids will do the rest! We played all afternoon!
We really enjoy creating a home party ourselves and it starts with our personalized invitations! It doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult to create adorable photo invites for your party! I’m still teary over here after looking through all these old invitations, why do babies have to grow up!?!
