The countdown is on, we are two weeks away from Christmas and I am frantically trying to tie up loose ends before the kids are out of school! Are you done with your Christmas shopping? Am I the only mom who did the majority of my shopping via Amazon Prime? I don’t know how our mothers did it, online shopping saves me, especially this time of year! The one thing I can forget or leave until the last minute is the kid’s stockings! Finding the perfect stocking stuffers have been a challenge for me in the past.
The first year my son was born, I completely forgot to stuff his stocking. I know, I know, he didn’t know the difference but I felt horrible. Then I couldn’t figure out what to stuff his stocking with. One year I filled them with just cheap little toys and Target dollar spot finds, it was fun to open but kind of a waste that the kids quickly forgot about. So in the last few years, I’ve made an effort to stuff those stockings with meaningful, yet useful and fun gifts! These ten easy stocking stuffer ideas have been a huge hit with my littles and I hope they’ll work for your family too!
1 Silly String
This is a cheap and amusing item to stuff stockings with. Silly String is actually one purchase from the dollar section at Target that I never regret because my children love love love it and it gets them outside, and playing together and causes massive amounts of giggles! That’s a win/win!
2 Nerf Bullets
This is actually what will be filling my son’s stocking this year! His little sister has eaten the hard plastic tip off of the nerf bullets for years so I threw away any we had to avoid the choking hazard. Now that she is almost four and no longer putting things in her mouth (hallelujah), we are getting my son a supply of nerf bullets and I don’t know any little boy who doesn’t need more ammunition!
3 Card Games
We love to play games around here, so an easy and useful gift to fill stockings with is card games and there are options for every age group! We love the classics, like Go Fish Old Maid, Uno, Phase 10 and SKIP BO!
4 Bath Time
A bath themed stocking is always fun and another great option for all ages, even you, so tell your hubby about this one! Fill the stocking with bath bombs, bath crayons, bubble bath , bath colors , and loofas. Everyone loves a little fun in the tub!
Small board books and coloring books work wonderful for younger kids and try chapter books for older kids, especially an exciting series they can read over the winter break! Books are easy but timeless and important for all children!
This is what my little lady is getting this year because what girl, of any age, doesn’t need accessories! I will be filling her stocking with lip glosses, Lip Smackers, play jewelry, headbands, and hair bows! She will be so excited and play with every single treasure she finds!
7 Travel Essentials
If you are taking a winter or spring trip, fill the stockings with everything they’ll need for the trip. Anything from gloves or beanies to goggles and sunglasses will work, depending on where you’re going. If you have to have to buy items for your trip anyway, this is a great way to do it!
8 Gardening Tools
This is particularly fun for preschoolers because they just can’t seem to get enough of digging in the dirt! Shovels, gardening gloves, and seeds make playful stocking stuffers your littles can enjoy anytime!
9 Dental Care
Although not the most entertaining theme on the list, you can make it fun for kids to take care of their teeth! I have bought light up toothbrushes, character toothpaste and electric toothbrushes, flavored flossers, timers, and more!
With New Year’s a week after Christmas, fireworks are an exciting surprise even if it’s just sparklers, poppers, glowsticks and confetti. Celebrate Christmas with holiday stocking stuffers and your New Year’s festivities are covered! Don’t forget to supervise your kids closely when playing with any sparklers or fireworks.
I hope these unique stocking stuffer ideas for your kiddos inspire you to finish your shopping and get your creative juices flowing! I know we all want our munchkins to enjoy unpacking their stockings on Christmas morning without spending a lot of money or buying toys they won’t play with. These themed ideas will be just what you need for fun and useful stocking stuffers!
